How to Have the Cleanest Windows in the Neighborhood?

Nothing looks worse than a filthy window on a beautiful summer day. Use these easy techniques for spotfree, shiny windows.

Window Cleaning

Tools:

  • Soft, link free cotton fabrics – old cotton shirts or diapers
  • Sponge/squeegee combination with a long handle in the event that you have hard to reach windows
  • Bucket filled with lukewarm water, 3 tbsp. ammonia and a spurt of fluid dish soap
  • Toothpaste, for scratches
  • Q-tips
  • Plastic scrubber

Clean windows in the morning if the weather is sweltering. This prevents streaking caused by the washing solution drying too rapidly.  Work on one window at a time. Altogether scour the window with the sponge side of the squeegee. In the event that there is muck adhered to the window, use the plastic scrubber to gently remove it.

Clean the corners with Q-tips.

Dry a strip at the top of the window with the cotton fabric. Pull the squeegee straight down, starting in the dry strip. Wipe the blade before moving to the next section. Mop up the bottom of the window and the ledge with the cotton fabric.
